Gabriel Polonsky, award-winning animator and mixed-media director, designer, and producer provides an overview of 2D animation describing how characters and scenes are conceived, drawn and brought to life for film and TV. Plus a live demo and a brief review of stop-motion and clay animation.
ABOUT GABRIEL POLONSKY:
For over 25 years Gabriel Polonsky has been working as an Emmy-nominated TV commercial director, designer, and producer. He is also an accomplished award-winning illustrator, exhibiting fine artist, cartoonist, graphic and character designer, sculptor, and storyboard artist.
From 1987 to 1992, he worked at Boston's Olive Jar Animation on numerous clay and stop motion animated TV spots. In1992, he started Gabriel Polonsky Studio, specializing in mixed-media, 2D, stop motion and clay animation and live action. Polonsky created national spots and on-air promos for Cartoon Network, CVS Caremark, The Sci-fi and Discovery Channels, and Arnold Worldwide; web spots for Volkswagen; animation character designs for Miramax feature films, national TV series opens for PBS, and local spots for Uppercrust Pizzeria and The Big Sister Association. His illustrations appear regularly in The Boston Globe, and for countless advertising and publishing companies.
In addition, he is currently in production on a feature-length documentary film about his father, Arthur Polonsky, a well-known Boston Expressionist painter. The Museum of Fine Arts and The ICA are planning to screen the film after its completion in 2012.
Polonsky teaches courses in basic to advanced 2D animation, storyboarding, character design, drawing and perspective at The New England Institute of Art and Northeastern University. Prior to that, he taught at The Art Institute of Boston, Lesley College, Boston University's C.D.I.A. as well as running workshops and lecturing at Harvard and Brandeis Universities and MassArt.
