It is also able to record and playback in either NTSC or PAL (though please keep in mind that the deck cannot convert, ie. a PAL signal is outputted if a PAL tape is played back). This makes the deck very useful for those filmmakers who have chosen to use PAL DV equipment due to its 25 fps format.
The deck's features recommend it for use on low-cost edit systems such as those based around Final Cut Pro software: the DSR 25 has FireWire in/out, SMPTE TC capability (via FireWire only) and a built-in 2" LCD screen for field playback and monitoring (Please note that a larger monitor is recommended for critical viewing decisions).
Finally, the deck's cost makes it a great complement to low-priced NLE systems and an affordable alternative to having to use a camcorder as a VTR.
