P2 Cards must be ordered seperately.

Panasonic takes HD in a whole different direction. High Definition can be had at an affordable price without HDV compression!

The AG-HVX200 records HD, in a number of different flavors, onto a P2 card using the DVCPRO 100 HD codec. But it does not stop there! The HVX200 will also record in DV, DVCPro, and DVCPro 50 formats as well. You can also choose to record DV onto the internal miniDV tape drive instead or downconvert HD footage to DV from the P2 card to tape.

Variable frame rate recording is just one of the features that makes this camera unique in its class. Using technologies that make the Panasonic VariCam camera-recorder a favorite in movie production, this powerful creative tool allows for "overcranking" and "undercranking" to create fast-motion and slow-motion effects. In 720p mode, the frame rate can be set from the conventional 24p/30p to any of 11 steps between 12p and 60p.

Other Features Include:

  • High definition recording formats: 1080/60i, 1080/24p, 1080/24pA, 1080/30p, 720p (variable frame rates)
  • Standard definition recording formats: 480/60i, 480/24p, 480pA, 480/30p
  • CineSwitchTM technology for variable frame rates in 720p mode: 12, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 30, 32, 36, 48, 60fps
  • 1/3" 16:9 native high-sensitivity progressive 3-CCD with 1080/60p scanning
  • New DSP with 14-bit A/D conversion and 19-bit internal processing for unprecedented accuracy
  • High resolution 235,000 pixel .44" electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 90 degree tilt and detail function (for easier focusing)
  • High resolution 210,000 pixel flip-out 270 degree 3.5" LCD display
And Much More!

P2 cards are essentially a RAID of SD memory cards with an LSI controller tightly packaged in a die-cast PCMCIA enclosure, so data transfer rate increases as memory capacity increases

The amount of footage you can store on a single P2 card will depend on your recording format.

  • DVCPro or DV: 4 min/GB
  • DVCPro50: 2 min/GB
  • DVCProHD 1080/60i 1 min/GB
  • DVCProHD 720/24p (Over 60p): 1 min/GB
  • DVCProHD 720/24pN (Native): 2.5 min/GB
  • DVCProHD 720/30pN (Native): 2 min/GB

Understanding DVCPro

DVCPro, by any name, will still be confusing. It doesn’t seem like this should be difficult to understand, right? I mean you use BetaSP tape in a BetaSP camera or deck and DigiBeta Tape in a DigiBeta camera or deck. Then what makes this format so confusing to so many of us?
