The GM series is Sony’s premium lens offering. What sets it apart from other Sony lenses is an emphasis on an extremely high resolving power of fifty lines per mm, out-of-focus “bokeh” quality, and a robust, weather-sealed body. As a part of the FE line of lenses, the FE 85mm f/1.4 GM is designed to cover the Sony a7- series cameras’ full-frame sensors. When used on a full-frame camera, the lens’ fast aperture, short telephoto focal length, and light weight make it a perfect portrait lens.  The f/1.4 aperture allows you to use the lens in low light situations, and gives you optimal depth-of-field control. This lens’s rounded eleven-blade aperture diaphragm gives images smooth out-of-focus areas when you desire a shallow depth of field. There’s also a manual aperture ring that can be “de-clicked” for smooth aperture adjustment when shooting video. When manual focus is not ideal, the direct-drive super sonic wave motor autofocus system provides a very responsive, accurate, and nearly silent autofocus function.
